Heart Healthy Ways to Grocery Shop

It’s February, and we’re using every opportunity we can possibly think of to share the love and spread the message of heart healthy ways in which you can take care of your health and your heart.

The fuel we choose to put in our body is one of the most important decisions we can make to protect our overall heart health. It can be overwhelming in a grocery store with so many choices, so we’ve compiled some ways to make your decisions much easier as you stroll the aisles with your grocery cart:

Meal Plan

Life can be hectic and we are all pressed for time—at the best of times. So we quickly throw some food together and are inevitably unprepared with certain key ingredients that would attribute to making a healthy and balanced meal.

This is life!

However, by finding a few minutes at the beginning of each week to plan exactly what you want to eat for each meal (and snack), you can thoughtfully prepare healthier choices. 5 minutes—that’s all it takes it create a heart healthy menu for the week.

Write a List

After carefully planning your meals ahead of time, you can write yourself a detailed grocery list to ensure you have all the right ingredients on hand. Consider each department in the grocery store and all the various options. In the produce section, go ahead and stock up on all the heart healthy fruits and vegetables you can manage, as they are loaded with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients we need!

In the bakery section, avoid the glazed donuts and head straight for the whole grains. Here you will also find our product, Omega3NutraCleanse, which is an excellent source of fibre and omega 3 essential fatty acids, thanks to the goodness of flaxseeds. 03NC can easily be incorporated into your heart healthy meal choices—daily.

Because you are making these mindful and conscious decisions, you avoid impulsively buying quick and convenient foods that are not always good for you. Another big bonus with writing a list, is that you save time and money!

Support Local

Finally, good heart health also comes with doing good deeds. We believe by shopping at your local grocery store and purchasing locally made products and locally grown produce, you are not only doing your health a favour (these foods are often fresher and contain fewer preservatives, because the transit time is drastically lower), you are making a positive impact on your community by supporting that business.
